Refractometer Temperature Correction
- Alcohol Solutions -
Corrects the measured value of a refractometer at alcohol solutions to the value at 20°C / 68°F.

Measured values:

Thermometer error (optional)

Measurements with a alcoholmeter or other density meter cannot be corrected with this calculator.
Also no measurements with a refractometer with ATC (automatic temperature compensation). Because this corrects the measured value more or less successfully mechanically.
If there are two solutions, both will be displayed. This is the case with alcohol strengths above 57.2%abv.
Since refractometers are very inaccurate at high alcohol strengths, samples above 45%abv should be diluted before measurement. For this purpose, "Measurement of diluted distillate" can be selected. Then three additional input fields are generated, in which measured values of a fine balance must be entered.
The measurement protocol should then look like this:
- First place the empty glass on the balance and measure.
- Then add the distillate and measure.
- Then add so much water that you end up somewhere below 40%abv, and measure.
The computer then calculates back to the %abv without dilution.
Of course, the accuracy of the balance determines how much more accurate than a measurement without dilution a measurement with this method is. If you take the three measurements one right after the other, you have a good chance that the inaccuracies of the balance will cancel each other out.
Since almost no one has an absolutely accurate indicating thermometer, an additional "thermometer error" can be given. This can be determined with the help of the Thermometer Error calculator. The temperature entered here is then the temperature displayed on this thermometer, not the real one.
